Gun & Shell Factory (GSF), Cossipore celebrated the 79th Independence Day

Gun & Shell Factory (GSF), Cossipore celebrated the 79th Independence Day of India with great patriotic fervour and enthusiasm at its historic premises today. The celebration began with the ceremonial unfurling of the National Flag by Shri Subir Kumar Saha, IOFS, Chief General Manager (CGM), GSF, followed by the singing of the National Anthem and a Guard of Honour presented by the Defence Security Corps.

In his address to the employees, the Chief General Manager highlighted the factory’s continued contribution to the defence sector and our steadfast commitment to national service. He paid tribute to the sacrifices of freedom fighters and urged all employees to uphold the values of unity, integrity, and discipline.

A special moment of pride marked the occasion when it was announced that GSF has been adjudged the "Best Unit" for the year 2024 by Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited (AWEIL). The award recognizes GSF’s exemplary performance in terms of production excellence, quality assurance, timely delivery, innovation, and employee engagement. 

On the same day, on behalf of GSF fraternity, Shri Santanu Saha, IOFS, General Manager received the Best Unit Award from Shri Umesh Singh, IOFS, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of AWEIL at AWEIL Hq., Kanpur. Furthermore, Shri Subir Kumar Saha, IOFS, Chief General Manager distributed wrist watches and cash prizes among the employees of GSF, symbolising the collective achievement and commitment of the entire workforce.

This recognition of Best Unit of AWEIL aligns with the national objectives under the “Make in India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiatives, reinforcing the Government’s commitment to reduce import dependency and strengthen indigenous defence capabilities.

Additionally, all employees actively participated in the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign from 12th to 15th August, 2025. Various events like Prabhat Pheries, Tiranga Rallies and Tiranga exhibition at GSF & it’s Residential Estates were also organized, in which employees from all levels of the Factory participated.

The Chief General Manager congratulated all officers, staff, and workers of GSF for their hard work and dedication that led to this significant achievement. He dedicated the Best Unit Award to the collective effort of the entire GSF team and reaffirmed the factory's commitment to achieving greater milestones in the years ahead.
